It was 10:00 pm and as usual I returned from work and just wanted to get some good sleep after a long day’s work, I rang my doorbell and with my mother came a tiny cute thing to open the door for me, my cute little doggie brownie. Inspite of his cuteness I was scared to pamper or even touch him. 10 days had passed since little brownie’s arrival to my home, and I was slowly touching him and lifting him.
Whenever I was upset or feeling low I would just go and sit next to brownie and look at his innocent face, he would also be looking at me as though he is consoling me, there were times when I spoke my heart out to brownie, he would keep his head on my lap and listen to everything, if he had the power to speak am sure he would have spoken with me many times.
After brownie’s arrival to my home, my opinion about dogs, especially street dogs changed, I was no more scared of them neither did I chase with them with a stone in my hand. If I felt it was an abandoned dog I would simply call animal protection centre, because like us even they have rights to live on earth. Co- incidentally I saw the same theme in the Hindi movie ‘Chillar Party’, where the kids love the dog so much and are ready to do anything for its sake.
Brownie started showering lot of affection on me and by now had received lot of love from us. I still remember the way I named him, since he was brown in colour I had named him as brownie, whenever it was time for me to leave for my work, brownie would start barking loudly not letting me to go and slowly I made him understand that it is important for me to work and I cannot sit with him 24hours, he nodded his head as if he understood everything I told, and the next day onwards when I was leaving to office he would come and lick my feet and go.
We decided to move to a new house and were busy in seeing lot of houses, and had failed to give time to brownie, it had learnt lot of things by now and one out of that was to never bark unnecessarily. Finally we were in our new house, One day I understood that brownie wanted from us was a little bit of time and lot of never ending love. Brownie wanted our presence felt at home and would just love to hear the footsteps, children playing outside, mom watching television at home, my silly quarrel with my brother and my dad’s pampering words to brownie, well he would understand all these, or it made me feel that it really understood. It didn’t take me long to understand that dog is man’s best friend.

No animal is as dangerous as man himself when it comes to god’s creation. Live and let live.
