Tom hanks is seen working with FedEx courier and one unfortunate night the private plane in which he is travelling with three of his colleagues crashes over the South Pacific. No one except tom hanks survives in this accident. He is able to escape this accident because of a life raft and clings on to it all night and due storm he is washed upon to an island.
He soon wakes up and runs around for help but soon he realizes that it is an uninhabited island. Few packages from the crashed plane and dead body of one of the pilot was up on the shore, tom hanks takes all those packages and finds that there are things which he can make use and he also gives funeral to the dead captain and takes removes his shoes and uses it. He opens all the packages except one with the wings on it (wings are a symbol of freedom).
Initially he tries to escape with his life raft but it doesn’t turn out to be fruitful as it’s not powerful enough to pass the strong and powerful waves. He gets very upset and in the process he searches for food, shelter and water. He manages to make fire and his first attempt he fails and hurts is hand severely, it’s at this point of time he is very upset on the whole situation and throws away a sports bag which is also one of the packages, and later he finds a volleyball, draws eyes and mouth on it and names it as Wilson and after that starts communicating with it, and starts treating it like a fellow human being. I liked this part where tom hanks actually argues and gets angry with his Wilson.
Four years he spends alone on the island with just Wilson to his company, by now he has mastered fishing and to make fire and also knows when the sea will have strong waves. He uses a nearby cave as his shelter and keeps a photo of his girl friend there………….. Regularly he is seen having conversations with Wilson...
After a few days a large sheet of plastic from a portable toilet washes up on the island, and tom hanks uses it as a sail in the construction of a raft. After spending some time building and stocking the raft and also deciding when the weather conditions will be safe, he launches it and is able to use the sail over the powerful surf, finally escaping the island. He carries Wilson also with him, but unfortunately Wilson falls from the raft and is lost, however he tries to go back of it and get it back, but in vain…….. Later he is saved by a passing cargo.
4yeras is a long time and he has been given up as dead by everyone and also a funeral is held for him. His lover by this time has married another person and also has a daughter; both tom hanks and his girl friend confess their love for each other but realize future together for both them is not possible. His girl friend gives him the car key which once they had shared; he drives away with it…
Without fail he delivers the package with wings on it to its address and also keeps a thank you note, stating that it saved his life………….
I learnt few things from this movie:
1. Human beings are social animals, we all want to stay in touch with the outer world, loved ones and family………. We want to hear the noise of people of walking, we want a company to speak whether it is stupid or sensible talks.
2. When we the best things in life easily, we shouldn’t be taking it for granted because we never know when we might miss it.
3. Believing in ourselves and being determined at our work with loads of concentration.
It is a wonderful movie, if you have seen it you will agree with me, and if you have not watched yet, what are you waiting for?? Go ahead watch cast away and you will also have a wonderful experience just like me…………
